Planning your adventure with Captain Kenny? We've answered some of the most common questions about what to bring, what's included, and what to expect on the water.

  • Everything you need for a great day of fishing! Southern Grin provides rods, reels, bait, tackle, and the necessary fishing licenses. We also supply complimentary water and sodas, so you can focus on enjoying your time on the water.

  • Nope! All necessary fishing licenses are covered by Southern Grin Charters. Just come ready to fish, and Captain Kenny will take care of the rest.

  • Absolutely! While we provide all the rods, reels, bait, and tackle you'll need, you're welcome to bring your favorite rod and reel setup. Captain Kenny will be happy to help get it rigged and ready for action.

  • We recommend bringing sunscreen (please no aerosol sunscreens as they make the deck slick and lead to falls!), sunglasses, a hat, and comfortable, breathable clothing. Dry-fit layers are a great choice, along with rubber-soled sneakers or boat shoes that provide good traction.

    Don't forget your camera or phone — you'll want to capture those memorable moments!

  • Of course! Complimentary water and sodas are provided aboard Southern Grin, and there's room in the cooler for any additional snacks or drinks you'd like to bring along.

  • If you're sensitive to motion, we recommend planning ahead before your trip. Over-the-counter motion sickness medications may help, but some work best when taken before boarding. Follow the medication's instructions and check with your pharmacist or healthcare provider if you're unsure which option is right for you.

    Our goal is to make your time on the water as comfortable and enjoyable as possible!

  • Absolutely! You're welcome to keep your catch, subject to applicable fishing regulations. We'll clean, fillet, package, and ice your fish at the end of your trip, all complimentary.

    Take it home for a fresh seafood dinner or bring it to a local restaurant that offers cook-your-catch service!

  • Your safety and enjoyment always come first. Captain Kenny monitors weather conditions daily and typically contacts guests the evening before their trip to confirm conditions.

    If the forecast isn't looking favorable, he may recommend rescheduling or canceling your charter. We'd much rather help you plan a better day on the water than send you out in uncomfortable conditions.

  • Southern Grin accommodates up to six guests, making it a great choice for families, friends, and small groups looking for a personalized Gulf Coast adventure.

  • We offer two fishing charter options:

    • 4-Hour Fishing Charter — $950

    • 6-Hour Fishing Charter — $1,350

    Whether you're looking for a shorter adventure or a little more time to reel in your next big catch, Captain Kenny has an option for you.

  • Yes! A gratuity of 15–20% is customary for the captain and deckhand. Tips are generally based on the quality of service, effort, and overall experience — not simply how many fish you catch.
